Congratulations to Gordon Burns and the team at HBO+EMTB, winners of the 2013 Corian Design Awards Edition 4 Commercial Category.
February 10th, 2014
HBO+EMTB chose Corian® to form the strong sculptural forms of this new reception counter for a Sydney Law Firm.
Matching Corian® was also used on the adjacent magazine rack, waiting area coffee tables and meeting room credenza shrouds helping to create a fluid and harmonious client facing area.
The client wanted a striking reception area that reflected company values of professionalism integrity and straight talking. The design seeks to suggest these qualities with a repetition of clean uninterrupted horizontals and simple geometric forms. The curves of the counter, chairs and tables link to the curve of the building façade and give a subtle wink to the forms of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House through the window.
The counter itself is simple in form with a sophisticated overlay of seemingly endless horizontal channels wrapping its surface. Given the relative complexity of forms the designers needed a solid surface product that was trusted, consistent in quality and known to perform well for joiners and end users alike. Corian® was the perfect material for these reasons.
