The Unicorn Hotel on Oxford Street in Paddington has recently opened its doors again with a fresh new interior design.
January 6th, 2014
Some of you might know the venue under one of its previous names: Fringe Bar or Unicorn Cellar, but the new interior has no resemblance to the past. The concept, inspired by a bottle of Veuve, was quite simple: black, white and yellow. Through out the interior these three colours are present whether it’s in the bold diagonal lines of the artwork, flooring or the furniture. The goal of the Creative Director, Nathan Sullivan, was not to create the fanciest place in Sydney but a place with a fresh design, divine food (nothing fried), good drinks and friendly staff.
To complete his vision Nathan worked together with Daniella Klein Menachemson, from B Seated Global to create furniture specifically for the venue. It was very important to Nathan to have furniture that you couldn’t find in other venues around Sydney. The furniture not only had to look striking but also invite people to share the space with each other.
B Seated Global were able to custom make all the furniture to his exact requirements. The furniture included leather ottomans, long leather seating rows, leather lounges, cafe chairs and leather wing back chairs all in the signature colours of black, white and yellow. The tables also have their numbers in the table tops, instead of the usual table stands people get when placing their food orders. These unique details further help The Unicorn stand out from its peers. “My favourite parts of the fit out were the numbered tables, huge wing back chairs designed for two and the pale yellow oval ottomans” says Daniella. “Nathan briefed us on the cocktail bar atmosphere he wanted to create and we thought our contemporary wing back chair would be the best solution. The oval ottomans were inspired by an image we found on Pinterest and they turned out to be a standout feature in the furniture mix.”
Sullivan is a self confessed dreamer who found that B Seated were able to bring his ideas to fruition without breaking the budget. B Seated Global understood what he was looking for and together they took his visions and found a fashionable and affordable way to achieve them.
