Take a SEAT for Indigenous Literacy

Take a SEAT for Indigenous Literacy

Hands That Shape Humanity, The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation and r.e.a.l store founder Virginia Bruce have come together for the cause of Indigenous literacy.

SEAT is a bamboo stool designed for children, created to help tackle the issue of 1 in 5 Indigenous children in Australia reading below literacy standards.

A joint initiative between Hands That Shape Humanity, The Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation (ALNF) and the r.e.a.l. store, this small bamboo stool is designed for children and features a secret compartment for storing a favourite book or beloved object.

The surface can be scribbled on or painted, allowing children to customise their SEAT to their heart's content.

Sold at Virginia Bruce's r.e.a.l store in Woolloomooloo, Sydney, as well as online, part proceeds from sales of SEAT will go to the Australian Literacy and Numeracy Foundation to support the Foundation's literacy programs.

SEAT is manufactured in Vietnam in Thin Being, Vietnam, and provides a sustainable and ethical business opportunity for the local community.

The SEAT initiative embodies the r.e.a.l stores ethos, "the ordinary to extraordinary", showing how simple gestures can lead to remarkable and far-reaching outcomes.
