Marcel Wanders combines antique and modern in his new lighting series, ‘Skygarden’, available in Australia through Euroluce.
November 21st, 2008
Like many great designers, Marcel Wanders can draw inspiration from anything around him. Looking to the ceilings of his home, he fell in love with the intricate floral patterns of the plasterwork, and turned these into a series of unique lighting designs.
“I loved it so much that by the time I moved house I could not leave it. I had to find a way to take it to my new home,” he says.
Wanders then created a lighting series named ‘Skygarden’ for Italian lighting company Flos. The series features many of the same patterns from Wanders’s original ceiling, bringing new life and energy to a classical design. Contrasting the antique appearance of the interior of the light with the sleek, glossy exterior, Wanders has managed to create a beautifully balanced lighting series.
“I called it my Skygarden, it always looked good even without me having green fingers or taking care of it very well. It didn’t need water or the sun but would live only on the warm rays of electrical light under it.”
Available in glossy black, gold, rust or white, the lights are distributed in Australia exclusively through lighting company Euroluce.
