Saturday in Design is just one week away. Australia’s premier event for architects and designers will be welcoming a number of international and special Australian guests to showrooms around Sydney.

Make time to drop in on the following design locations to meet with the special guests.


Blinds by Bayliss

International Guest: Eun Il Lee
Where: 83-97 Flinders Street, Darlinghurst, Flinders St Precinct
When: Saturday 1 August

Korean design master, Eun Il Lee, creator of the Artvivant Collections and founder of his eponymous brand eunillee will visit the Flinders St Precinct.


Brintons Carpets

Special Australian Guests: Leah Manwaring, Michelle Simin, Kristen Quayle, Christie Arulappu.
Where: 1/1-25 Adelaide Street, Surry Hills NSW (sharing with Café Culture) in Downtown Surry Hills
When: +Friday (31 July) and Saturday 1 August

After graduating from Canberra School of Art Sydney based textile designer Leah Manwaring spent a numbers of years developing her design skills at a number of design houses/institutions abroad. 

These included London design house de Gournay, the Fabric Workshop and Museum, Philadelphia and CRDITM in Montreal.  She now works for international carpet manufacturer Brintons designing carpet for major hotel and hospitality clients.

Christie Arulappu – Melbourne-based designer


Corporate Culture

International Guest: Hiromichi Konno
Where: 21-23 Levey Street, Chippendale Precinct
When: Saturday 1 August

Japanese designer, Hiromichi Konno, will be mingling with guests on the day. A designer for Fritz Hansen and Frederik Moller and creator of the RIN Chair, Konno has studied in Japan and Sweden and lived for many years in London, informing his international outlook on design.


Electrolux


Special Australian Guests:
Alex Perry and Tetsuya Wakuda
Where: 163 O’Riordan Street, Mascot (Satellite Location)
When: Saturday 1 August
Alex Perry (fabric care) – 11am
Tetsuya Wakuda – 12.30 – 2.30pm

Meet the Electrolux partners who will be in the showroom during the day. Alex Perry will present on fabric care and Tetsuya Wakuda will run an intimate masterclass and induction cooking sessions.

Iken Commercial Interiors

International Guests: Ulf Magnusson and Emilio Marisei from HAG Norway
Where: Harmony Park (near Longrain Restaurant)
When: Saturday 1 August

Meet Ulf Magnusson and Emilio Marisei from HAG Norway, who will be discussing the FUTU, a revolutionary chair with advanced technology and introduction of the new InBalance system.

KE-ZU

International Guests: Marivi Calvo and Sandro Tothill from Lzf Lamps
Where: KE-ZU Showroom Level 2, 61 Marlborough Street Surry Hills
When: +Friday 31st July [by appointment] AND Saturday 1st August


 
If you have participated or missed their passed workshops in Australia, here’s an opportunity to sit down with Marivi and Sandro to talk about lighting design whilst you make your own creations with their materials. Get a hands on feel for what makes sense with manufacturing lzf lamps and screens and take away the final product….and there’s more….Spanish jamon will be served.

K+N CityOffice

International Guest:
Heinz Meyering
Where: 12-14 Meagher Street, Chippendale Precinct
When: Saturday 10am

At 10am on Saturday, Heinz Meyering (Chairman of Koenig + Neurath, Germany) will speak on ‘Why the Germans Do It Better’ in regards to furniture design and the environment.

Reece

International Guest: Daniel Nikles
Where: 188 Chalmers Street, Downtown Surry Hills Precinct
When: Saturday 1 August

Reece will host a VIP breakfast, featuring special guest Daniel Nikles, General Manager of Nikles Showers in Italy. The event will also mark the release of the black Liscio tapware range from Phoenix.

Spence & Lyda

Special Australian Guest: Lisa Hoelz
Where: 16 Foster Street, Surry Hills Central Precinct
When: +Friday (31 July) and Saturday 1 August

 

Spence & Lyda’s favourite artist Lisa Hoelz will be creating a cactus garden in and all over the showroom windows, live on Friday and Saturday.

 

FY2K

Special Guests: Penny Craswell (Indesign magazine) Alice Blackwood (Design Quarterly) and Ben Morgan (indesignlive.com)
Where: 17 Thurlow Street, East Redfern
When: Saturday 1 August from 11am
