Eager Nuts and Bolts

The cogs are in motion for jewellery designer Bronwyn Eager.

Bronwyn Eager gets strange looks when she approaches companies to manufacture her jewellery. Their response is often a stern ‘No, we only make cars’.

“They can’t quite figure me out. I think they see a young girl in high heels who probably doesn’t know anything about what they do, but once we start talking and they find out I’ve studied mechanical engineering they let their defences down and we can get on with designing jewellery,” Eager says.

Through her company, Siren, Eager has created an eclectic collection of jewellery and accessories. Her latest range, Metropolis, turns symbols of industry such as cogs, screws and other machine parts into bold, chunky, yet feminine jewellery. The designs are also manufactured using industrial techniques such as wood lathes, sandblasting and industrial turning.

After eight months in business Eager’s work has been included in concept store RG Madden, the National Gallery of Victoria shop, Empire Rose, and Aliens 2020 concept store in Bangkok. Eager has so far released three collections – ‘Everything’s coming up Roses’, ‘Queen of Hearts’ and now ‘Metroplis’.

“It’s all about working closely with the manufacturer and learning what skills they have, then combining their skills with my vision to create new pieces,” Eager says.
