Colonising New Markets

This month Australia played host to Gabriele Roscioli of the Italian company, Colony fabrics. Taking over from his father as managing director, Roscioli is taking his unique product range to new markets and was in the country to launch the company’s Spring collection.

A relatively new company in European terms – just 30 years old – Colony produces just eight new patterns each year – four in Spring and four in Winter. The fabrics have been used throughout the world, in embassies, consulates, parliaments and high-end hotels and restaurants.

While Colony are well known for designing traditional and refined patterns, with 3 in-house designers, the company also produce a number of contemporary patterns and never discontinue lines.

Roscioli was keen to stress the attention to detail and care taken in producing and matching patterns and colours for clients – “In the textile industry what really counts is detail,” he says.

The latest collection from Colony includes velvet jacquards, cut-velvet moquettes and embroidered silks and linens. MD of Australian distributor Boyac Susanna de Vienne says, “It’s so Italian, it’s palazzo. Their designs bring the glamour and luxury of the past into today.”
