A Good Run for Goodrum

A Good Run for Goodrum

Designer Adam Goodrum watches as his 'Stitch' family unfolds.

Earlier this month, designer Adam Goodrum was invited to judge at Interieur 08 in Belgium – an International Biennale for creative interior design. While in the neighbourhood, he dropped into Cappellini to ‘talk shop’ regarding his ‘Stitch’ chair and the possibility of a ‘Stitch’ family.

“I had seven proposed designs for the family and thought if three get up, that would be unreal,” he says.

His excitement was not unwarranted – walking the R&D floors of Cappellini he found all seven proposed designs in prototype form.

The ‘Stitch’ chair is made from 3mm aluminium plate and has integrated hinges, allowing it to fold to a minimal size of 15mm. “Twenty-five folded [‘Stitch’] chairs take up the space of one open chair,” Goodrum says.

Having resolved issues regarding the ‘hinge system’, making it easier to manufacture and giving it a more “earthy, hands-on feel”, the ‘Stitch’ family opens up wider markets, with Goodrum seeing possible commercial applications for museums and space conscious indoor and outdoor environments.

With the continued popularity of the original ‘Stitch’ chair and Goodrum’s design trademark of simple elegance, design lovers can be assured that the ‘Stitch’ family will not disappoint.

Keep an eye out for the ‘Stitch’ family, which is planned to launch early next year.
