Six Australian architectural practices have been short listed in a competition to design the new UTS Broadway Building.
This is the first major project to be commissioned as part of the UTS City Campus Master Plan (announced late last year).
“Through this design competition we are keen to explore how the university can enhance interaction between our education and research focus, and the surrounding precinct,” says Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ross Milbourne.
The design brief – developed in conjunction with a research paper by the School of Architecture – asked architects to consider this aim while exploring new building technologies such as smart metering and modular building, while achieving at least a 5-star Greenstar rating.
“The interface of creativity and technology is very much at the core of who we are,” says Professor Milbourne.
“This building will celebrate those principles and deliver an inspiring environment for teaching, learning and research.”
The short listed architects are: Bates Smart, BVN Architecture, Cox Richardson, Denton Corker Marshall, Francis-Jones Morehen Thorp and Lacoste + Stevenson + Daryl Jackson Robin Dyke.
The winner will be announced in June.
