The ‘Lull’ lamp by Norwegian design trio Varmo | Kollstad | Buene is a flower-like hanging LED lamp with a timer. Its petals slowly open in the morning to wake the user naturally, then do the opposite at night.
The design has been around for a few years now and has received a lot of praise, winning an award at the 2007 Giform competition and the Norwegian Design Council’s Young Talent Award in 2008.
‘Lull’ is yet to enter production, however one of the creators of this clever design, Marianne Varmo, has told us it’s well on its way – “We are already in dialogue with a few manufacturers… but we have not made any certain decisions for which one to go for.
“Hopefully the lamp will be on the market just before Christmas 2009. Also in Australia,” she says.
The lamp is a part of an interesting mission for Varmmo and her partners in design Audun Kollstad and Heidi Buene. “We are free standing designers that are doing this for passion to give the world a nice way to wake up to in the morning.”
