Art and design are so intrinsically linked in Queensland. There seems almost to be no need for a distinction to be made between the two, instead being considered part of the same creative pursuit.
So we don’t feel it is too far out of our way to report on Queensland’s art scene as well...
With the success of the 2008 LAUNCH Clayton Utz Travelling Art Scholarship, the Law Firm is once again giving the opportunity for an emerging Queensland artist to build their career with a $10,000 grant.
The award is open to artists from regional Queensland and Queensland expat artists now living interstate.
A winner will be chosen from up to 30 short listed artists, by Michael Snelling (curator of Someone’s Universe: The Art of Eugene Carchesio).
Last year’s award was shared between photographer, Martin Smith (work below) and painter Dane Lovett (work above).
The winner will be announced on 2 June with an exhibition of the finalists at the Metro Arts Centre from 2 – 12 June 2009.
Applications close 1 May 2009 at 5pm. Download the application form here.
