Indesign Re-launch

Leading design studio's latest challenge - Indesign magazine re-launch

Only a few weeks to go before the new look Indesign magazine is revealed, stay tuned for an interview with the designers behind the redesign and sneak peek images coming soon...

Graphic design studio one8one7 is the creative force behind the new visual identity of architecture and interior design magazine Indesign.

The innovative studio brings its experience working on POL Oxygen magazine, as well as more recent publications, including Jaime Hayon’s new book Works and the recently-launched Aboriginal Art Magazine.

Led by Marcus Piper and Christey Johansson, the studio takes a collaborative approach to graphic design and is multi-award winning, both at home in Australia (with the Australian Graphic Design Awards and ASBP Bell Custom Publishing Awards) and overseas (with the Folio Awards and Society of Publication Designers Awards).

This re-launch marks the first comprehensive review of Indesign magazine – and the first time that the magazine has re-launched with new Art Directors – in its nine year history. As part of the re-design, studio one8one7 has created a new font – called Indesign – which is inspired by the jagged forms of Konstantin Grcic’s Chair_One series. Using this as the headline font, the design also incorporates another new font – National – finished by New Zealand typographer Kris Sowersby of Klim just in time for the magazine’s release.

Realising that good graphic design complements, rather than competes with its content, the new Indesign favours a clean, yet structured layout that gives space for its contents to breathe. Tying in with the new visual identity of the magazine is a simpler structure, making the magazine more focussed, easier to navigate and more reader friendly.

And, drawing readers inside is studio one8one7’s innovative cover concept – a tip-on flap. Featuring teasers hinting at the contents inside, the flap can be taken off for a pristine and beautiful cover and used as a bookmark to mark a favourite article.

Indesign’s re-launch issue #37 is on sale in newsagencies and bookstores globally on Wednesday 27 May.
