Staron® Design Award Winners Announced – IDL

The Awards recognise design excellence in projects that have used Samsung Staron® Solid Surfaces. For 2014 Edition 2, the Commercial category winner is Siren Design Group who designed a complete fit out for Kinetic IT’s Perth headquarters. Staron® Solid Surfaces has been used in colour Pearl White for a thermoformed reception desk and seated area.

The use of Staron® begins on the front of the reception desk and continues over the front counter to the desk space, then continues all the way to an integrated seating space in the reception area. Staron® made it possible to have one continuous flowing material with no open joins.

The surface creates a soft, undulating form designed specifically for the project. The fluid contours are representative of Kinetic IT’s organic relationship with their clients and continuous progression towards an innovative solution. The futuristic look and feel of the design also fits well within the IT industry.

Congratulations to the Siren Design Group for creating a striking design that suits the client and industry so well. This beautiful fabrication work was completed by Wave Surfaces.

The Residential Category winner is Alex Norman, Brilliant SA. Alex was awarded for her design of the kitchen and bathroom spaces of this Californian bungalow.

Alex designed a 3m long island benchtop for the kitchen of this Californian bungalow to create a luxurious kitchen space that is easy to live in. The decision to specify Staron® Solid Surfaces in colour Tempest Confection was born from the need to create a luxurious design that was easy to maintain. Using Staron® also allows the entire benchspace to be one continuous surface with no open joins. As a bold statement, Acrylic Couture in Malachite Green was used as the splashback and clad on to the front of the island. An LED lighting strip was also used around the material for illumination.

Staron® was also used in the bathroom space. It enabled a clean, fuss free vanity top and shower floor/wall surface with a seamless application. The vanity top in Quasar White is non porous and easy to clean. The shower wall and base are installed in one continuous surface and no grout or join lines. Acrylic Couture was also selected as the shower screen as an elegant feature.

The end result is one that produces a sense of excitement and enjoyment for all who visit the home and for those who live within it! The carefully selected flooring, wall cladding and benchtops in Samsung Staron® Solid Surface enable the clients to live a ‘fuss free’ lifestyle and provide a neutral surround for the overall space. This fabrication work was completed by Solid Surface of Distinction.

The Concept Category winner is Christian Oshiro – an outstanding design student from Billy Blue College of Design, Perth. Christian has been awarded for his concept design of the Kokoro Stand.

This is a concept of a mid-floor shoe display fixture for shoe boutique – Melissa. Melissa shoes is a Brazilian-made product with a very personal touch and its statement about multiculturalism brings the ideal of colour and care for its customer which translates into a pure, honest, and a heartfelt product. This design complements the company culture perfectly to represent the brand.

Kokoro in Japanese means: heart, also feeling, mind, spirit and essence of the individual. The angled design of the Kokoro stand is emotive in its heart shape and vivid Univers Staron® colour. Staron® would suit this design as the three dimensional shape could be created in one continuous surface and no open joins. The stand represents a beautiful display that would match the beauty of the shoe designs.

Adding to the sentiment of this concept, Christian has dedicated this heart design to his mother, who passed away recently.
