Two up-and-coming designers take out the Time to Design 2009, New Talent Award.
September 9th, 2009
They may hail from opposite ends of the globe, but Singaporean designer Hunn Wai and Italian Francesca Lanzavecchia make an award-winning pair.
The two, who met while studying at Design Academy Eindhoven, have just been awarded the Time to Design 2009 New Talent Award for their project, ‘SPAZIALE SERIES: New expressions of skin and structure’.
As part of their award-winning package the duo will spend time in Denmark using the facilities at the National Workshops for Arts and Crafts to bring their project to fruition.
Based on voids, skin and structure, ‘SPAZIALE SERIES’ takes inspiration from fashion, architecture and human behaviours. Fusing these influences, Wai and Lanzavecchia create interior objects which question our perception on the rituals of possessions storage and ecological-awareness.
Drawing on this concept the duo will cultivate new possibilities and gain new perspectives on the function of furniture, aesthetic, interaction and purpose.
Time to Design is an international design award that offers a unique platform to designers in the initial stages of their career. The award winner is granted three months residency at the National Workshops for Arts and Crafts, 50,000DKK donated by the Cultural Ministry, and two weeks exhibition in the Normann Copenhagen Flagship Store.
