Herman Miller and the Powerhouse Museum are bringing the exhibition ‘George Nelson: Architect, Writer, Designer, Teacher’ to Australia.

One of the preeminent designers of the twentieth century, George Nelson (1908-1986) was not only a leading designer and notable architect, but also a prominent author, editor, lecturer, exhibition designer, and a passionate photographer.

Initially trained as an architect with a degree from Yale, Nelson went on to become design director of Herman Miller, where he created modern furniture classics including the Coconut Chair, the Marshmallow Sofa and Action Office. Curated by the Vitra Design Museum in Germany, the exclusive Australian exhibition is the first time a Nelson retrospective of this scale has come to our shores.

Nelson’s impact across the variety of disciplines are explored through five themes: Nelson and the House, Corporate Design, The Office, Exhibition Design and Designer of Influence.
