An extraordinary list of speakers for an ’extra/ordinary’ conference.
April 14th, 2010
Speakers for the Australian Institute of Architect’s ‘extra/ordinary’ national conference have been announced.
Starting on Thursday 22 April, the 3-day conference aims to look at several social issues and how the architecture industry may be able to shape these.
Topics to be addressed in the conference include the pressures of unprecedented open growth and how cities may change in look – the increasing division between property ownership and wealth and how architects could potentially bridge competing interest of development and social equality, and how architects, artists and other cultural organisations can collaborate to produce permanent larger structures.
Architects speaking at the conference will include Netherlands-based Ole Bouman, New York-based Jeremy Edmiston, UK-based Sean Griffiths and Australian David Waldren.
The speakers were selected based on their much-hyped or awarded out of the box design solutions.
“These speakers are known world-wide for working in new ways, whether by exploring new ways of affordable residential living, pushing the relationship between art and architecture, challenging ideas of taste, or for exploring the use of materials ‘at hand’ rather than brand new,” conference creative director Mel Dodd (pictured) said.
The conference is on the 22, 23 and 24 April 2010 at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre, Darling Harbour.
