“Emotions drive people. And people drive change. This is the basis of Beautiful Thinking.” – Chip J DeGrace, Executive Creative Director, Interface
August 4th, 2015
At this point, you might be asking, “So, what the hell is ‘Beautiful Thinking’ and why are there flowers blooming out of someone’s head on the cover?” I get it, kinda abstract. It’s a normal question to be asking, but something that should really be second nature (pardon the pun) for every existing and future architect and designer.
Put quite simply, Beautiful Thinking uses the principles and systems found in nature to unlock the potential of a space.
Sure, Interface makes carpet tile, but they also have the capability to give designers the tools to improve the world not just with product, but with a whole new way of thinking about design and it’s impact on people.
Using the systematic thinking found within the natural world, the Interface approach – cleverly dubbed ‘Beautiful Thinking’ – creates conditions conducive to thriving life.
This mind frame coupled with Interface textiles has huge implications for bettering the way we look at workplace design; where this approach significantly contributes to the reduction of stress, improvement of cognitive function and creativity, improvement in our wellbeing throughout a vast range of global workplace case studies.
The most valuable lesson here is this: We as a design community have a responsibility to impact on the outcome of a space in a positive way beyond how “pretty” it can be. Designing with the Interface modular system can allow you to lay the foundation for creating an environment that naturally awakens one’s ability to thrive, collaborate and be creative. This kind of thinking can only lead to something extraordinary, provocative, innovative and new, something beautiful – something that is sorely missing from current commercial environments.
Through Interface, the design community has the potential to change the world. To invite nature in – in every sense and definition of the phrase – to create a environments that inspire Beautiful Thinking.
