Mal Corboy Cleans Up at Kitchen Design Awards

BY

November 25th, 2009

The New Zealand-based kitchen designer has been collecting the accolades for his unique kitchen creations for the past few years, but none recognise his accomplishments more than his most recent title – Kitchen Designer of the Year Australia.
Placing equal measure on function and form, Corboy’s designs combine minimalist aesthetics with plenty of practicality too often forgotten in form and imperative for good kitchen design.
Starting out as a tradesman might be the recipe for the success of the innovative kitchen creator – a comprehensive knowledge of fixtures and materials makes his work all the more impressive.
Corboy has long been associated with leading brands such as Smeg, which was part of his award-winning kitchen at the Kitchen & Bathroom Designers Institute Awards last month.
Pairing American oak with the minimal slick look of the stainless steel Smeg Linear range, Corboy matched new with old to award-winning success.
“It was a fantastic honour to be recognized by the industry and it capped what has been a great year. The kitchen design allowed me to push the boundaries and the Smeg appliances sat very well within the overall concept.”
