Cargo 08, a new design installation to test the minds-eye by Melbourne-based artist Yandell Walton.
February 21st, 2008
Presented as part of the 2008 L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival Cultural Program, Cargo 08 examines the convergence of design and art through a sophisticated projection technique, obscuring the perception of real space.
Visitors to the event will experience a ’trick of the eye’, as images of the female form are projected onto a three-dimensional designed sculpture cast. What appears to be a living and breathing female will appear trapped inside packing crates.
Since completing her Masters of Fine Art at RMIT in 2005, Walton has exhibited in galleries both nationally and internationally, exhibiting projection and video installations to uncover a metaphor for the interior space of the psyche.
Walton has steadily developed her profile as a media artist to watch since she was granted the Melbourne Fringe Festival Visual Arts Award 2005 and the Siemens Scholarship in both 2003 and 2004 for her projection installations.
