The Tiger Translate paradigm is a simple one: East meets West, through artistic collaboration.

We brought you news last year about Queensland’s Matt Stewart, who was selected to represent Australian in Mongolia competing in an artistic cross-cultural “battle”. The challenge this year was to translate the “future of Mongolia” by exploring the streets of Ulan Bator, the nation’s capital.

Teamed with local artists and representatives from the Philippines, a melange of artistic styles fused and corroborated in a series of three challenges, the culmination of which was a live neon and UV “art battle” in one of Ulan Bator’s nightclubs before members of the Country’s emerging art scene.

“I love how Tiger Translate brings together different artistic influences from around the world into one spot and introduces them to the host country,” Explains Matt, “…in the same way, visiting international artists take away different artistic styles with them that they would not normally have experienced first hand.”

With each year’s Tiger Translate held in a fresh, inspiring location, the significance of Ulan Bator’s selection is that the initiative celebrates Mongolia’s progression towards an artistically free and open culture.
