Chasing Kitsune

Follow the glowing fox through the streets of Melbourne for a pop-up food experience like no other!

Chasing Kitsune

July 20th, 2011

The opening night of the 2011 State of Design festival saw hungry Melbournites following online clues to to track down an elusive food truck.

The concept, designed by HASSELL, is inspired by the Japanese mythical fox Kitsune, a cunning nocturnal animal with the power to possess people. Kitsune only reveals itself through shadows and reflection.

Incorporating the ’design that moves’ theme of this year’s State of Design Festival, the team of HASSELL designers has created their version of a Yatai – Japanese food truck – that appears at night at various locations around the city.

Unassuming by day, by night the truck turns into a pop-up night café with food from Mo Pho in South Yarra, featuring chef KinSan, and drinks from Robot Ninja Sake and Asahi.

Kitsune will be stalking the city streets between now and 31 July. For clues as to his location, jump onto the Chasing Kitsune Facebook page or download the State of Design iPhone app – and keep your eyes peeled for the glowing fox silhouette!
