In the exhibition that represents the best names in the profession worldwide, students from the University of Technology Sydney (UTS), will take part in the 11th Venice Biennale Architecture exhibition this September.
The event comprises of national pavilions including the Australian 2008 display, Abundant. Neil Durbach, creative director for Abundant, invited the UTS students (from both the Master of Digital Architecture and Bachelor of Arts in Architecture course) to be part of the exhibition after examining an annual catalogue of their latest body of work.
“What I saw appeared really fascinating and beautiful and I really wanted to include it in the biennale,” he says.
Ashley Dennis (student) has submitted work from his final year Bachelor of Architecture project re-designing the Sydney Fish Markets and describes the opportunity as “as good as it gets” and “a real bonus”.
The Head of the School of Architecture, Dr Sandra Kaji-O’Grady is equally excited. “It is a huge honour for the school to be invited to be part of this International event. To have our students represented amongst Australia's and the world's best architecture is extremely gratifying,” she says.
