Redfern Waterloo

The PYD Building and Warehouse in Precinct Seven had all of Saturday in Design talking.

Big crowds filtered their way through the mixture of permanent showrooms in the design complex – including Australian furniture at Arte Sofas, carpets of all textures at De Poortere, Koda Lighting’s new range of NIMBUS lighting, the latest bathroom trends at Rogerseller and a history of chairs at The Country Trader, who also had a corner dedicated to the creative beauty of Designer Rugs.

In the warehouse, Sebel showed their latest office chair, Chameleon, available in any colour you choose, while Intermain showed off a sculptural piece in the shape of a hand, created in collaboration with Melbourne sculptor Tim Fleming – called ‘Two Hands’. And ISM Objects and Tait again teamed up, hanging the raw, industrial beauty of the ISM lighting range above the honesty and elegance of Tait’s range of furniture.

Arthur G showed their range of Australian designed furniture while directing visitors to their showroom down the road. James Richardson had a similar plan, enticing visitors to visit their showroom thanks to an installation about the ‘Sense of colour’ by Morris Selvatico.

At the James Richardson showroom down the road artists sketched chairs live in the showroom on a backdrop of new products from their three divisions JR/SIT, JR/WORK and JR/WEAVE.

In a converted shipping container, Fisher & Paykel showed the ‘Kitchen of Today’ and the ‘Kitchen of Tomorrow’ to display the integrated innovation of the Izona range.

And at FY2K, a range of furniture from around the world, including Sellaro and Riva1920, as well as new products from Frag, Walter Knoll and Italcomma was arranged just so, interspersed with the warmth of carpet samples from Rugs Carpet & Design. On Saturday at 11am, FY2K hosted ‘Meet the Editors’, where editors Ben Morgan (indesignlive.com), Penny Craswell (Indesign magazine) and Alice Blackwood (DQ design quarterly) were on hand to discuss new work.
