One hundred and eighty Australian architectural practices have created ‘architectural artefacts’ for the ‘Abundance’ exhibition to be displayed in the Australian pavilion at the 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale.
The 300 interpretative models ranging from abstract forms to architectural fragments were designed in response to the Venice Biennale director, Aaron Betsky’s theme ‘Out there: architecture beyond the building’.
They are based on existing projects and include an array of inspirations from a ‘future shack’ made from a shipping container to a luxury mixed use building based on a snowflake for Michael Schumacher in Abu Dhabi.
A series of immersive projections of Australian buildings from colonial constructions to recent projects will be shown in the upper gallery connecting Australia’s architectural beginnings to current practice.
The 2008 Venice Architecture Biennale runs from September 14 to November 23 with a preview from 11 - 13 September.
